 It has been a busy couple of months at Festival HQ. At the end of April we said goodbye to our 190 speaker guests and our 5k+ audience members, packed up the venues, reconciled the accounts, distributed our survey and processed what we did well, and what we can do better.
 
There have been dozens of conversations since our final session on Sunday, April 28, and we thank everyone for their feedback on how we can deliver a better festival next year. If you’d like to send us a comment Contact us.

Coming up: we have several ancillary Festival events planned between September and December, including a writing workshop in September and several author events in Melbourne and Sorrento. One highlight: the US Election dinner at The Baths on Thursday October 31. Our esteemed panel will discuss the forthcoming November election, possible outcomes and ramifications.

The 2024 Sorrento Writers Festival was a triumph. It was embraced by the Sorrento community and by the so many outstanding panelists, authors and moderators - many of whom returned after the success of the inaugural one. Following the triumph of the inaugural Sorrento Writers Festival in 2023, I downplayed my expectations this year, only to have them exceeded. Over three and a half days, I attended 20 hour-long sessions. Well, 21 if the festival conclusion drinks are included, though that went for more than an hour!

What People Said About The 2023 Festival

The 2023 Sorrento Writers Festival was a resounding success. In our first year, the Sorrento Writers Festival established itself as one of Victoria’s most exciting literary events. Feedback from presenters and the public was incredible.

There was so much to love about the Sorrento Writers Festival, but here’s what matters: I spoke with several audience members who’d never been to a writer’s festival before. And they loved it. They each left the session excited by books, and ideas, and stories. For me, introducing the most democratic of art forms to regional Victorians was the best part of the weekend.

Welcome to The Sorrento Writers Festival, a new not-for-profit cultural and community organisation that will bring year-round literary events, discussions and talks to Sorrento and the wider Mornington Peninsula community.

Our inaugural four-day Festival runs April Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 and we hope you’ll join us.

This seaside gathering of great ideas brings together some of Australia’s finest minds and deepest thinkers. In April we welcome more than 100 writers, journalists, academics, commentators, illustrators, and musicians to our beautiful part of the Peninsula. And we can’t wait.

The Sorrento Writers Festival acknowledges the Bunurong people of the great Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land on which our Festival takes place. We celebrate our region’s deep First Nations history, its European settler influence, and its contemporary role as one of Victoria’s most beautiful coastal villages.
