Heather Rose
In Conversation

Award-winning author Heather Rose will be joining us at the South Yarra Library on Monday October 20 to discuss with Festival Director Corrie Perkin the story behind A Great Act of Love, an epic family drama that moves from the French Revolution of the late 1700s to London, New York, and then an epic voyage to Tasmania.

Heather Rose is one of Australia’s most gifted writers. Her 2019 novel Bruny won the 2020 ABIA General Fiction Book of the Year Award, and was shortlisted for an Indie Book Award and Davitt Award. The Museum of Modern Love won the 2017 Stella Prize and the 2017 Christina Stead Prize and the 2017 Margaret Scott Prize. Heather has also written for younger readers under the pen-name Angelica Banks with Danielle Woods. Heather’s memoir Nothing Bad Ever Happens Here was shortlisted for the nonfiction prize in the Indie Book Awards in 2022.

The Life Writing Workshop 2025

Playwright Hannie Rayson and historian, author and director Michael Cathcart will return to Sorrento in October to run another two-day life writing workshop.

This two-day dynamic workshop is for people who want to tell stories about their own lives, or the lives of other people. You will learn how to build your narrative form from real-life stories. Hannie and Michael will advise on research techniques, how to interview people, pitfalls and shortcuts, and how to produce a compelling book.
